Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankra, has disclosed the difficult financial situation he inherited upon assuming office, noting that the Authority’s coffers were in an unhealthy state and unable to support significant projects at the time.

Speaking in an interview on Original FM, Mr. Ampofo Ankra shared candidly about the financial constraints the NSA faced, especially in the early months of his tenure.

When I took over as Director, the coffers of the NSA weren’t healthy, and we couldn’t do anything significant for ourselves, he stated.

Despite the financial challenges, Mr. Ampofo Ankra acknowledged the efforts of well-meaning individuals who stepped in to support the Authority in crucial moments. He singled out sports administrator who is the owner of Medeama FC, Moses Amah Parker, for his timely financial support ahead of Ghana’s Black Stars World Cup qualifier match against Chad.

It took some individuals like Moses Amah Parker, who supported financially ahead of the Black Stars’ World Cup qualifier against Chad, he revealed.

The Director General’s remarks shed light on the behind-the-scenes struggles of the country’s sports administration and the importance of public-private collaborations in sustaining national sporting activities.
