Following his official departure from Asante Kotoko on Monday, attention has quickly turned to Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum’s record and legacy at the club, which presents a blend of triumph, resilience, and recent turmoil.

In total, Dr. Ogum oversaw 96 Ghana Premier League matches as head coach of the Porcupine Warriors during his two stints, the most recent beginning in 2023. Under his stewardship, Kotoko recorded 46 wins, 25 draws, and 25 defeats, scoring 104 goals and conceding 70, amassing 163 points overall.

His biggest achievement remains guiding the team to the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title, a feat that restored the club’s dominance in Ghanaian football after years of underachievement.

However, his second spell failed to replicate the success of his first. Recent results have painted a grim picture, with the team failing to win in their last four league matches, including a humbling 2-0 loss to Nations FC over the weekend. That defeat saw Kotoko drop further behind in the title race, sitting 4th on the league table with 47 points after 28 games.

Amid the pressure, Dr. Ogum voiced his frustration post-match, stating, “We keep working, we keep playing the games,” in what would be one of his final comments as head coach. Shortly after, multiple reports indicated his intention to step down, pending management’s approval, a decision later confirmed via an official club statement.

Asante Kotoko’s announcement emphasized mutual agreement and thanked Dr. Ogum for his dedication. The club urged fans to remain calm during this period of transition, promising more updates in due course.
