Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President, George Afriyie, has shed light on the behind-the-scenes events that shaped the outcome of the 2019 GFA elections.
Speaking on Sporty FM, Afriyie claimed that former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi played a significant role in securing victory for Kurt Okraku.
Mr. Nyantakyi said the night before the election, somebody called him and said that he must help Kurt Okraku to win. Right after that, Kurt also called him to ask for his help. Nyantakyi then called 60 out of 123 delegates to his house and told them to vote for Kurt. And this was a man who was banned from football, Afriyie revealed.
Afriyie, who finished second in the elections, emphasized the impact of Nyantakyi’s influence, suggesting that it played a crucial role in the final results.
There are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes during an election. If this happened the night before the vote, and I got 40 while Kurt had 44, you should understand, he stated.
He also acknowledged Nyantakyi’s longstanding presence in Ghanaian football, saying, “You cannot discount Mr. Nyantakyi; he has over 30 years in football administration.”
