Hearts of Oak Edge Past Spirited Chelsea To Extend Dominance

Accra Hearts of Oak secured a crucial 3-1 victory over Berekum Chelsea in their Week 14 Ghana Premier League clash at the Legon Sports Stadium on Friday night.

Goals from Ramzy Yussif, Hamza Issah, and Kwabena Boateng for the Phobians and a consolation from Emmanuel Sarpong secured the win for Hearts to return to winning ways.

Hearts of Oak’s dominance over the Bibires extended with the win, securing a third victory in the last five league meetings with the away side who last won this fixture in 2019.

While the recent scoreline suggests a comfortable win for the Phobians, head coach Aboubakar Ouattara acknowledged that the result did not fully reflect the balance of play.

The Phobians delivered a resilient performance to claim all three points, which bolstered their standing in the league, pushing them up to 5th position.

However, in his post-match interview, Coach Ouattara lauded the efforts of the visitors and admitted the match was evenly contested.

“We came for the three points and we got it. We continue to work,” Ouattara remarked. “Today Chelsea gave us a difficult game. The score is not a reflection of the game. The game was 50/50, but we scored. They gave us a tough match. When we were leading 2-1, it was not easy.”

Berekum Chelsea’s spirited display kept the contest competitive, particularly when they trailed 2-1 and pressed for an equalizer. Hearts of Oak, however, capitalized on their opportunities, sealing the win with a decisive third goal in the closing stages of the match.

With this victory, the Phobians are now focused on maintaining their momentum as they prepare for their next challenge—a tough away fixture against Accra Lions.
