Cercle Brugge midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has been called up to the Black Stars squad as a replacement for the injured Elisha Owusu ahead of Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed Owusu’s withdrawal, citing an injury that rules him out of the matches scheduled for March 21 and 24. The midfielder, a regular in recent squad selections, was expected to play a key role in the crucial fixtures.

In his place, Agyekum, who has been a consistent presence for Cercle Brugge, joins the squad. The 21-year-old has featured in 34 matches for the Belgian club this season, though he is yet to register a goal or an assist but has won 42 tackles in the Belgian Pro League this season the 9th highest in the competition.

With World Cup qualification at stake, the Black Stars remain focused on securing victories in their upcoming fixtures as they continue their campaign toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
