Harry Kane wrote his name into the history books once again on Saturday, scoring twice to lead Bayern Munich to a 3-2 victory over rivals Borussia Dortmund and breaking three important goalscoring records in the process.
The England captain arrived at the match with 43 goals for the season. After falling behind to an early goal from Nico Schlotterbeck, Bayern needed a response. Kane provided it just after the hour mark, tapping in from close range to draw his side level.
That goal was his 44th of the campaign, matching the personal best he set during the 2023/24 season. He did not stop there.
Just minutes later, Kane was brought down in the penalty area. He stepped up to take the spot-kick himself and calmly slotted it home to put Bayern 2-1 ahead. The goal was his 45th of the season, setting a new personal record.

This saw him achieve a rare feat in English football history. With 45 goals, Kane became the first English player to reach that total in a single season since Dixie Dean scored 46 for Everton back in the 1931/32 campaign.
His scoring run in the Bundesliga has been particularly impressive. Saturday’s brace was his fourth in a row in the league. This makes him only the third player in the history of the competition to score four consecutive doubles. The last player to do so was Tomislav Maric for Wolfsburg in 2001.

Perhaps most remarkably, Kane has broken his personal goalscoring record in far fewer games. Last season, it took him 45 matches to reach 44 goals. This time around, he has hit 45 goals in just 36 games, beating his previous best by nine games.
With the season entering its final stages, Kane has a strong chance to add to his tally. Bayern are still competing in the DFB Pokal and the Champions League. If they progress in both tournaments, they could play at least 13 more games, giving their star striker plenty of opportunities to extend his remarkable run.
