The tournament brings together six countries in Kigali, with hosts Rwanda welcoming Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Mozambique and Sierra Leone across matches played at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium Grounds and the RP-Kigali Oval. Competition is scheduled to run from 9 to 15 August, with the top three finishers advancing to the next stage of the ICC’s qualification pathway toward the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Matches will be played in the 50-over One Day format, the same format used at the global U19 World Cup itself, placing a premium on disciplined batting, sustained bowling spells and tactical patience rather than the short bursts of Twenty20 cricket.
Ghana’s Under-19s are on their to Rwanda looking to improve on their showing at the previous edition of the Division 2 qualifiers, where the side opened with a win over Mozambique but could not overcome subsequent defeats that ended their campaign before the playoff stage.
The Under-19 pathway has historically served as a launchpad for players who go on to represent their countries at senior level, and Ghana Cricket Association officials will be hoping this squad can use the Kigali qualifiers as a platform for the next generation of the country’s cricketing talent.
