Solomon Tagoe and Patience Effion Otoudung emerged winners of the men’s and women’s categories respectively at the 2026 Duku Festival Cycling Race held at the Osu.
The cycling competition, which attracted more than 80 cyclists across both categories, formed part of activities celebrating the Homowo Festival and provided an opportunity for cyclists to showcase their competitive ability.
In the men’s 120-kilometre category, Solomon Tagoe took first place after completing the race at 3:08 p.m., recording an average speed of 33.27 km/h and a finish time of approximately 3 hours, 36 minutes.
Francis Owusu finished second at 3:09 p.m., while Victor Cudjoe and Frank Akuffo crossed the finish line at 3:10 p.m. to place third and fourth respectively. Prince Quaye completed the top five after finishing at 3:13 p.m., with Emmanuel Sessi recording a finish time of 3:14 p.m.
The women’s 50-kilometre race also produced an impressive display of competitiveness, with Patience Effion Otoudung claiming the top spot.
She completed the race at 1:31 p.m., following the 11:39 a.m. start, at an average speed of 26.78 km/h.
Ellen Anim finished second, followed by Abigail Tetteh in third. Kensema placed fourth, while Jessica Nartey and Jennifer Lamptey finished fifth and sixth respectively. Rebecca Agena completed the top seven.
Several cyclists were unable to complete the women’s race, including Majorie Quaye, Deborah Adu and Esther Addobe.
The event brought together cyclists, supporters and sports enthusiasts at the Osu TotalEnergies Filling Station, with the strong participation underscoring the growing interest in cycling competitions and the importance of community-based sporting events.
The successful staging of the Duku Festival Cycling Race further highlights the potential of cycling to promote healthy living, youth participation and grassroots sports development in Ghana.
