TnA Stadium Confirmed as Host Venue for Medeama-Nations Champion of Champions Clash
TnA Stadium in Tarkwa will take centre stage on August 30 when Medeama SC and Nations FC meet for the 2026 Champion of Champions, with the venue set to host the traditional curtain-raiser to Ghana’s new domestic football season.
The fixture, coming just one week before the start of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League, gives the Tarkwa-based club an early opportunity to underline their status as domestic champions against the side that won the MTN FA Cup last season.
Medeama secured their second Premier League title in the 2025/26 campaign, while Nations FC ended the season with the FA Cup trophy despite suffering re;egation. Their meeting in Tarkwa will therefore bring together the winners of Ghana’s two major domestic competitions for the traditional season-opening contest.
However, the choice of venue could make the encounter particularly significant for Medeama. TnA Stadium has become one of the strongest home grounds in the Ghanaian top flight, with the champions losing only once there throughout the entire 2025/26 season.
That record gives Medeama more than just familiarity with the surroundings. They will enter the contest knowing that their home form was a major component of their title-winning campaign, although Nations FC will be determined to spoil the hosts’ celebrations and claim the first trophy of the new season.
The timing of the match also means neither side can afford to treat it simply as an exhibition. With the Premier League scheduled to begin between September 4 and 7, the Champion of Champions represents the final competitive examination before the league campaign gets underway.
A Different Challenge For Nations FC
Nations FC will arrive in Tarkwa with the confidence that comes from winning the FA Cup, but their latest assignment presents a different test from their cup run. They must now deal with the reigning league champions in their own backyard, where Medeama proved exceptionally difficult to overcome last season.
For Medeama, preparations have already taken them outside Ghana. The club are currently in Côte d’Ivoire for their pre-season programme, returning to a country they also visited before the 2025/26 campaign.
That previous trip ended with Medeama lifting the Premier League trophy, giving the current pre-season camp an interesting historical parallel. The club will hope the preparations again provide the platform for another successful domestic campaign.
The Champion of Champions should also give both coaches an opportunity to evaluate their squads before the competitive schedule becomes congested. Players can be assessed under pressure, tactical adjustments tested and any remaining weaknesses exposed before the league begins.
A victory would give either side an early psychological advantage, but the consequences extend beyond the trophy itself. Medeama can use the occasion to reinforce their authority as champions, while Nations FC can make an immediate statement that their FA Cup triumph was not an isolated achievement.
