A new Astro Turf facility has been officially commissioned at Methodist University, marking a significant boost for sports development in the Ablekuma North Municipality.
The Member of Parliament for the constituency, Ewurabena Aubynn, led the commissioning ceremony, describing the pitch as far more than a sporting amenity.
Speaking at the event, the MP said the new facility represents a direct investment in the young people of the Municipality, framing it as a foundation for nurturing talent, promoting healthy living, and building a brighter future for residents.
This is an investment in our young people, it’s an investment in talent, in our health, and ultimately a better future for the beautiful people of Ablekuma North Municipality.”
Aubynn extended her gratitude to the range of partners who made the project possible, singling out President John Dramani Mahama, the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive, and Methodist University for their collaboration, alongside other stakeholders who supported the initiative.
Turning to the young athletes expected to make use of the facility, the MP welcomed them to train, play, and discover their talents on the new pitch, while urging them to treat it with care. She expressed optimism that the turf would, in time, help shape future champions from within the community.
Aubynn closed her remarks by reaffirming her commitment to development in the Municipality, pledging to continue working with stakeholders to bring opportunities and progress closer to the people she represents, one project and one community at a time.
The commissioning adds to a growing list of grassroots sporting infrastructure projects across Ghana aimed at widening access to modern training facilities and identifying talent at the community level.
