Semenyo Nominated for Premier League Player of the Month Award
Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for September after another impressive run of performances for Manchester City.
The 26-year-old was involved in all three of City’s Premier League victories during the month, playing every minute as Enzo Maresca’s side maintained their perfect record.
Semenyo contributed four goals and assists combined, scoring twice and providing two assists to underline his growing importance to City’s attack.
His first assist came in the 1-0 victory over Coventry City, when his delivery found Erling Haaland for the only goal of the game.
He was also involved in City’s narrow 1-0 win over Manchester United before producing his most influential display of the month against Sunderland.
Semenyo assisted Rayan Cherki before scoring twice himself as City defeated Sunderland 5-3 at the Etihad Stadium. His performance earned him a nomination for the Premier League’s Player of the Matchweek award.
Second Award Within Reach
The latest nomination gives Semenyo an opportunity to win the monthly prize for a second time after he claimed the award in February following his strong start to life at Manchester City.
He scored three goals and registered an assist during that month, becoming one of only a handful of Ghanaian players to receive the individual honour.
Semenyo’s September nomination is particularly significant because his influence has extended beyond simply scoring goals. His pace, direct running and willingness to create opportunities have made him a useful attacking option for Maresca, while his ability to contribute from different areas of the frontline has increased his value to the team.
He is competing for the September award alongside Liverpool duo Alexander Isak and Jeremy Jacquet, Leeds United’s Jayden Bogle, Mohamed Bellouni of Hull City, Pascal Gross and Charalampos Kostoulas of Brighton, and Brentford’s Kevin Schade.
The winner will be determined through a combination of the public vote and the verdict of a Premier League awards panel.
Semenyo’s latest recognition comes after a difficult decision at international level. He was initially named in Carlos Queiroz’s Ghana squad for the September 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers but withdrew after suffering a swollen leg.
His absence rules him out of Ghana’s opening qualifier against Côte d’Ivoire and the subsequent home meeting with The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.
For the Black Stars, losing one of their most productive attacking players is an obvious blow. For Semenyo, however, the immediate priority will be returning to full fitness and continuing the form that has placed him among the Premier League’s standout performers once again.
A second Player of the Month award would further underline how quickly Semenyo has established himself at one of England’s biggest clubs.
