The President of the Republic of Senegal, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has extended his congratulations to the Senegalese National Team following their qualification for the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Teranga Lions secured their place in the final with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Egypt in the semi-final. In a tense game with few clear opportunities, star forward Sadio Mané proved decisive. His powerful strike from outside the penalty area in the 78th minute was the difference, sending the team into the AFCON Final
The win sets up an opportunity for Senegal to claim a second AFCON title. The team will compete in the final this Sunday, January 18th. They will, however, be without key defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who is suspended for the match after receiving a second yellow card in the knockout stages.
In a statement released after the match, President Faye praised the team’s performance and unity.
“I congratulate our Lions who, through a serious and controlled match, have overcome Egypt and secured their place in the Africa Cup final,” President Faye stated. He added, “One step away from glory, continue with the same clarity, the same discipline, and the same collective spirit, to offer Senegal a new star and a pride shared by the entire Nation.”

Senegal will face tournament host Morocco on Sunday where the Teranga Lions will aim to bring the trophy home once again.
