Following a controversial decision during Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco, star forward Sadio Mané made a personal choice that captured global attention. While his teammates entered the dressing room in protest, Mané remained on the pitch.

Addressing the media, Mané offered a clear explanation for his actions, focusing on respect for the official and the fans.

“Because the referee can make a mistake, it’s not fair to judge him,” Mané stated. “And most importantly, I did it for the people in the whole world. They wanted to watch the game.”

His comments highlighted a sense of duty to the sport’s global audience, prioritizing their experience over the immediate dispute.

The player then shifted to a more personal announcement, marking a moment in his international career. While expressing happiness, his tone carried a note of finality regarding the tournament.

“I am so happy, but as I have said, for me, as far as the AFCON is concerned, it’s over here,” Mané confirmed.

He clarified his commitment to the national team in the short term, but set a boundary for his future. “I will stay with the team until the World Cup, but after that, it’s over.”

Sadio Mane is prioritizing the upcoming World Cup to be his final major tournament with the Senegalese national team, closing a celebrated chapter for one of the nation’s greatest players. His decision on the pitch, rooted in fairness, adds a poignant layer to this impending departure.
