The group stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2025/26 season comes to a close this weekend, and the fight for a place in the quarter-finals is far from over.

With Matchday 6 set to be played on Saturday and Sunday, only three of the eight teams that will advance to the knockout rounds have been confirmed.

Reigning champions Pyramids FC, Egyptian giants Al Ahly, and Mali’s Stade Malien have already booked their tickets. For the remaining clubs, everything will be decided in one final round of high-pressure matches.

Group A: Battle for Second Place
Pyramids FC tops Group A with 13 points and will host Zambia’s Power Dynamos. The Egyptian side is already through, so the focus shifts to the race for the runner-up spot.

RS Berkane of Morocco and Power Dynamos are tied on seven points. Berkane will play at home against Nigeria’s Rivers United, who are already out of contention.

A win guarantees Berkane advances. Power Dynamos, who are behind Berkane due to their head-to-head record, will need to better Berkane’s result to move on.

Group B: FAR Rabat and Young Africans Vie for Spot
Al Ahly has already secured its place at the top of Group B with nine points. The battle is now between Morocco’s AS FAR, who have eight points, and Tanzania’s Young Africans, who have five.

Al Ahly will host AS FAR in a match that will decide the group winner. Meanwhile, Young Africans must defeat Algeria’s JS Kabylie, who have already been eliminated, and hope that AS FAR loses to Al Ahly to claim second place.

Group C: Wide Open Race
Group C is the most unpredictable of all. Al-Hilal Omdurman of Sudan leads with eight points, but they are closely followed by MC Alger of Algeria (seven points), Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa (six points), and St Éloi Lupopo of the DRC (five points). All four teams still have a chance to qualify.

Hilal will host Lupopo, while Sundowns and MC Alger face each other in South Africa in a direct, winner-takes-all clash.

Group D: Esperance and Petroleos in Direct Fight
Stade Malien has already secured top spot in Group D with 11 points.

The fight for the second qualifying place is between Tunisia’s Esperance Tunis and Angola’s Atlético Petroleos, who are both on six points.

They will face each other in Tunisia in a decisive showdown. In the other match, Tanzania’s Simba, who are already out, will host Stade Malien.

With so much at stake and five quarter-final spots still up for grabs, fans across Africa can expect a weekend full of tension and excitement.
