The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has praised the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, for his decision to donate part of his salary to the National Sports Fund.
SWAG also extended its commendation to its member, Mr. Dickson Kyere Dua, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum West, and other MPs who have made similar donations. The Association described these actions as patriotic and a clear show of leadership and commitment to the growth of sports in Ghana.
The commendation follows an announcement by the Minister on the floor of Parliament. During a statement Hon. Kofi Adams disclosed that he would be donating three months of his salary to the Fund, effective February 2026. He explained that the Fund is designed to be transparent and accountable, with the goal of supporting infrastructure, grassroots sports, athlete welfare, and recreational activities across the country.
In a further show of support, the front bench of the Majority Caucus in Parliament has also decided to donate their March salaries to the Fund. Other MPs present in the House made individual donations to the initiative during the proceedings.

SWAG noted that these gestures set a powerful example for the nation. While acknowledging the efforts of the government officials, the Association has issued a call to action for the private sector.
SWAG is now calling on Corporate Ghana and other institutions to step forward and support the National Sports Fund. This call was reinforced by the news that the National Investment Bank has already contributed GH¢100,000 to the initiative. SWAG described the bank’s donation as a strong example of corporate leadership in advancing sports development.

The Ghana Sports Fund is expected to serve as a major resource pool, bringing together contributions from both the public and private sectors.
Its aim is to provide stable funding for sports administration and the long-term development of athletes throughout Ghana.
