Nigeria Set for Four-Nation Invitational Tournament in Jordan
Three-time African champions Nigeria, will participate in a Four-Nation Invitational Tournament in Amman, Jordan, during next month’s FIFA international window.
The Super Eagles will compete alongside hosts Jordan, Iran, and Costa Rica in what promises to be a competitive mini-tournament.
Nigeria begin their campaign on March 27 with a clash against Iran. The encounter revives memories of their goalless draw at the group stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
On the same day, Jordan will lock horns with Costa Rica at the 62,000-capacity King Abdullah II Stadium.
The second round of matches will take place on March 31, with Nigeria facing the host nation at the Amman International Stadium, while Iran meet Costa Rica at the King Abdullah II Stadium.
Beyond the immediate competition, the tournament is expected to serve as an early building block for Nigeria’s preparations toward the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. It also offers the technical crew an opportunity to assess new faces and test tactical adjustments ahead of crucial assignments.
However, the scheduling has drawn some scrutiny. The Nigeria Football Federation currently has a complaint lodged with FIFA concerning the alleged fielding of ineligible players by Congo DR during the CAF World Cup playoffs, a tie the Super Eagles lost on penalties.
The invitational tournament also falls within the same international window as the Intercontinental World Cup playoffs, adding another layer of intrigue to Nigeria’s busy calendar.
