Zirkzee strikes late for Man United on his debut

Joshua Zirkzee emerged as the hero for Manchester United as his late goal on his debut for the club secured a 1-0 victory over Fulham on the opening day of the Premier League season at Old Trafford on Friday night.

The Dutch striker, who joined the Red Devils from Bologna for a reported £36 million, made an immediate impact after coming on as a substitute.

Zirkzee’s decisive strike in the 87th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides, as United kicked off their campaign with three crucial points.

Erik ten Hag’s side struggled to break down a resolute Fulham defense for much of the game, but Zirkzee’s introduction in the 60th minute proved to be a game-changer, toe poking a Garnacho cross into the bottom left corner, and beyond the reach of Bernd Leno who was in post for Fulham.

The goal will undoubtedly boost the Dutchman’s confidence as he looks to establish himself as a key player for United.

The victory will provide a positive atmosphere in the Red Devils dressing room as they seek to overcome the challenges of the previous season where they ended with a negative goal difference.

United will now turn their attention to their next Premier League fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion, aiming to build on their opening day success.
