Bayern Munich are facing a real problem just before their 2nd Leg Champions League game against Atalanta. The club has confirmed that all of their senior goalkeepers are now injured and cannot play in the second leg.
The situation got much worse after the game against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Sven Ulreich, who was already filling in as the main keeper, suffered a muscle tear. He will be out of action for the game against Atalanta.
He joins Manuel Neuer on the sidelines. Neuer has been missing from the team for a while now as he continues his recovery.
To make matters more complicated, the club’s third choice, Jonas Urbig, is also unavailable. Urbig picked up a concussion during the first leg of the Round of 16 tie and has not been given medical clearance to play.
The Situation got worse during the weekend. Reports from the club’s training ground suggest that U19 goalkeeper Leon Klanac has also picked up an injury in training.
This leaves the team with no fit goalkeepers from their usual first-team or reserve setup.
According to sources, the club will have to look to their youth team for help. They are set to call up Leonard Prescott for the second Leg at the Allianz Arena in Germany.
Prescott is a 16-year-old shot-stopper who stands 1.96 meters tall. He is currently the backup goalkeeper for the U-19 team. There’s a possibility the teenager will be named in the matchday squad for the Champions League clash.
It is a strange situation for a club like Bayern. They will now have to hope that their young keeper does not need to be called into action against a strong Atalanta side.
