WAFU B U20 Girls Cup: Black Princesses Begin Title Defense with Win Over Benin

Ghana’s Black Princesses got their WAFU B U20 Girls Cup campaign off to a perfect start with a commanding 2-0 victory over hosts, Benin in their opening fixture.

The Ghanaians showed composure and dominance throughout the match, with Linda Owusu Ansah and Sarah Nyarko finding the net in either half to secure all three points for the defending champions.

Owusu Ansah opened the scoring in the first half with a well-taken strike after a period of sustained pressure from the Princesses. Benin tried to respond but were constantly denied by Ghana’s well-organised defence and the excellent work rate of the midfield.

After the break, Sarah Nyarko doubled Ghana’s advantage with a composed finish to put the result beyond doubt.

Latifa named POTM

Midfielder Latifa Musa, who was instrumental in controlling the tempo and dictating play, was deservedly named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.

The victory sees Ghana take top spot in Group a group consisting of Benin and Nigeria, setting a strong tone for the rest of the competition as they aim to defend their regional crown.

The Black Princesses will now turn their attention to their next fixture—a mouth-watering clash against arch-rivals Nigeria in three days’ time, a game that promises to be one of the highlights of the tournament.
