Ghana’s boxing administration is set to enter a new chapter as the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) formally announces an Extraordinary Congress for the election of a substantive Executive Board of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).

The notice, grounded in Articles 4.6, 7.4, and 7.8 of the GBA Constitution alongside the GBIMC Election Roadmap, signals the formal conclusion of the interim period and the transition towards a fully elected leadership structure. The GBIMC has indicated that the announcement builds upon all past communications issued during the course of its extended mandate.

The Extraordinary Congress will be held on Thursday, 4th June 2026, at the Accra Sports Stadium, commencing at 9:00 a.m. prompt. Delegates in attendance will exercise their franchise to elect individuals into seven positions that will constitute the new Executive Board.

Prospective candidates are advised that the picking of nomination forms opens on Thursday, 14th May 2026, with all completed forms due for submission no later than Tuesday, 19th May 2026. Nominations must be duly completed and signed by the proposer and seconders before endorsement by the candidate.

Each submission must be accompanied by four passport-size photographs, the prescribed nomination fee, and a brief statement of the candidate’s qualifications and background.

On the question of voting eligibility, the GBIMC has stipulated that only members and Associations in good standing, those fully registered, duly licensed, and not in financial arrears shall be entitled to cast a vote at the Congress.

All delegates must be formally nominated and their details submitted to the GBIMC Secretariat on or before 19th May 2026.

In the coming days, the GBIMC will also announce the composition of a three-member committee, to be chaired by the GBIMC Chairman, tasked with overseeing and navigating the affairs of the GBA Executive Board Elections process. Full instructions for candidates, including modalities governing the conduct of the elections, will be set out in a dedicated Elections Modalities Kit to accompany the official nomination forms.

The announcement represents a critical step toward restoring permanent, elected leadership to Ghanaian boxing at the national level, a development widely expected to bring greater institutional stability and renewed focus to the sport’s administration as Boxers continue to pursue prominence on the world stages.
