Ghanaian sports journalist, Saddick Adams has urged Asante Kotoko to withdraw from the Ghana Premier League following the death of their supporter Francis Frimpong AKA Pooley.
Saddick Adams argues that Kotoko’s leadership is equally responsible for the unfortunate incident, blaming them for their silence on pressing issues within the league. According to him, the club’s executives have become complacent and failed to challenge the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on the declining state of the competition. He insists that if Kotoko, one of Ghana’s most influential clubs, were to take a stand, real changes would be forced upon the league.
He highlighted several challenges plaguing the Ghana Premier League, including the lack of sponsorship, poor security standards, deplorable state of stadiums and the deliberate refusal to broadcast matches. He also noted that Kotoko existed before the GFA, yet the club’s current leadership has become weak in the face of the league’s ongoing problems.
“A club that once rose against Kwame Nkrumah is now being downplayed by the GFA,” he remarked.
Saddick Adams further described the league as a “terrorist ground,” where officials prioritize profit over player welfare. He alleged that players earn as little as 700 cedis per month, a situation he believes could be changed if Kotoko’s leadership took action.
“If Kotoko doesn’t play, there is no league,” he declared, urging the club to make a bold move in honor of their fallen supporter.
