Real Madrid Bid Farewell to Captain Dani Carvajal
Real Madrid have announced that club captain Dani Carvajal will leave the club at the end of the season, ending a remarkable journey that spanned more than two decades.
Carvajal first joined Real Madrid’s academy in 2002 and developed through the youth ranks before making his way into senior football.
Although he was sold to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 2012, the Spanish giants quickly moved to bring him back just one year later after activating a buyback clause following his impressive season in Germany.
Since returning in 2013, Carvajal became a key figure in one of the most successful eras in the club’s history and eventually wore the captain’s armband.
The experienced right-back leaves Madrid with 27 trophies, including six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns. He also made 450 appearances for the club, scoring 14 goals during his time with the first team.
In a statement, Real Madrid described Carvajal as one of the “greatest legends” in the club’s history, while club president Florentino Pérez praised him for representing the “values of the institution” throughout his career.
Carvajal also enjoyed success on the international stage with the Spain national football team, winning the UEFA Nations League in 2023 and UEFA Euro 2024.
The Santiago Bernabéu is expected to give the defender an emotional farewell during Real Madrid’s final La Liga game of the season against Athletic Club on Saturday as supporters prepare to say goodbye to one of the club’s modern icons.
