The University of Ghana Stadium has been temporarily closed for renovation in preparation for the CAF African Schools Football Championship, set to take place from April 21 to April 26, 2025.

Initially, the preliminary rounds were scheduled to be held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, with the University of Ghana Stadium hosting the finals. However, a change in plans has led to adjustments in the tournament’s venue arrangements.

The closure has also affected domestic football, compelling Hearts of Oak to relocate their Ghana Premier League fixture against Nations FC to the Tuba Astroturf.

The tournament’s zonal qualifiers, held between October 2024 and January 2025, saw national school teams from 46 countries competing in the 2024-2025 season. The continental finals will feature the champions of the 2023-2024 boys’ and girls’ teams, along with winners from CAF’s six zones and host nation Ghana.

A total prize pool of $650,000 has been allocated for the championship, with the winning school receiving $300,000, the runner-up earning $200,000, and the third-place finisher taking home $150,000.

Launched in April 2022, the CAF African Schools Football Championship was previously hosted by South Africa in 2023 and Tanzania in 2024. Ghana will become the first West African nation to host the tournament.
