The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has assured that his administration will take a proactive stance in maintaining Ghana’s sports facilities to ensure they meet the Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards.

His commitment follows growing concerns over the deteriorating state of the country’s stadiums, which have faced criticism from both local and international observers.

Ankrah emphasized the need for swift action rather than waiting for regulatory bodies to issue warnings.

We shouldn’t wait for CAF or FIFA to warn us before acting. We need to be ahead of the situation, and that is exactly what I intend to do. We have already begun, he told Citi Sports.

During an inspection of the Accra Sports Stadium, Ankrah expressed his disappointment with its condition, describing it as a “crime scene” due to extensive structural and maintenance issues.

Despite these challenges, the NSA managed to get the stadium ready for Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Chad on March 21, 2025.

With CAF enforcing stricter regulations on stadium infrastructure, the NSA’s proactive approach will be vital in ensuring Ghana’s venues remain fit to host international matches.
