“A wounded lion is still feared” — Bashir Hayford fires warning to Kotoko

Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has sent a clear message to Asante Kotoko ahead of Saturday’s Ghana Premier League clash in Kpando, insisting his side remain a force to be reckoned with despite their recent struggles.

Speaking ahead of the matchday 21 encounter, Hayford dismissed suggestions that Lions’ inconsistent form has weakened his team’s resolve, stressing that adversity has only strengthened their determination.

“We will prove to the world that even a wounded lion is still feared,” Hayford said.

The Kpando-based side have endured a difficult run in recent weeks, picking up just one win in their last five league matches.

However, Hayford believes their home form and fighting spirit give them a genuine chance against the 25-time champions.

Heart of Lions have traditionally made life uncomfortable for Kotoko, who are yet to record a win against the Kpando-based club since their return to the top flight in 2023. That record, according to Hayford, is no coincidence.
