Officials from the famous German football club, Borussia Dortmund, has arrived in Ghana. They are here to officially start the BVB International Academy – Ghana. This is a big step for youth football in the country.
The delegation landed at Kotoka International Airport in Accra on the night of Thursday, February 5, 2026. They were joined by former Borussia Dortmund player and Ghana football legend, Ibrahim Tanko. His strong ties to the club were very important in making this academy happen in Ghana.

Teddy Hiadzi, the Director of the new academy, welcomed the officials. “We are very happy to be the first official BVB International Academy in Africa,” he said.
He also praised the role of Ibrahim Tanko. “Ibrahim Tanko is very much influential, a legend and an ambassador for Dortmund,” Hiadzi added.
The BVB International Academy–Ghana will focus on finding and training the best young players. It will also teach coaches and share Borussia Dortmund’s football methods with Ghanaian talent. This project will help Ghana’s strong reputation as a country that produces quality footballers.
The academy will offer full training programs for boys and girls from 6 to 18 years old. It will have a path for elite players who want to become professionals, and also a stream for those who play for fun.
BVB International Academy Ghana aims to do more than train footballers. It wants to develop disciplined and well-rounded young people. The academy, working with local club Accra Shooting Stars, plans to have a positive impact on the community. It will mix Borussia Dortmund’s world-class standards with a proud Ghanaian identify
To mark the launch, a series of activities have been planned, including a youth football clinic aimed at introducing young players to the BVB training philosophy.
The day will also feature a public watch party for Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against Wolfsburg, offering fans an opportunity to engage with the club and celebrate the start of a new chapter for youth football development in Ghana.

The BVB International Academy Ghana represents a significant step in strengthening football ties between Ghana and Germany while opening new opportunities for the next generation of Ghanaian footballers.
