Emmanuel Mamah’s second half goal was enough for FC Samartex to pick an important 0-1 away win over Cameroonian champions Victoria United in the first leg at the Japoma Stadium.
Coach Nurudeen Amadu maintained majority of his line up with Kofi Baah beginning in post, Ebenezer Acquah captained the side with Baba Hamadu Emmanuel Mamah leading the attack.
Victoria United started on a good note and had much of the ball in the early stages but without any dangerous attacks to trouble the Samartex backline.
Gradually, the Timber Giants began settling down and dominated in terms of possession playing with so much confidence but failed to find the back of the net.
In the second half, the Ghanaian champions bounced back stronger and launched so much pressure attacking right from onset but in search of the opener.
FC Samartex finally jumped into the lead through Emmanuel Mamah who connected with a towering header from a corner kick.
Both teams in the final fifteen minutes of the game exerted so much pressure on each other but the game saw no goal again as it finished 0-1 for the visitors after full time.
FC Samartex will host Victoria United for the return encounter on Sunday, August 25, at the Ohene Gyan Stadium.
