The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has today announced the official retirement of its Secretary General, Mr. Véron Mosengo-Omba, following a distinguished international career spanning more than three decades.

In an official press release issued from Cairo, Mosengo-Omba confirmed his decision to step down from the role to devote himself to more personal projects. He leaves behind a legacy defined by his unwavering commitment to promoting football as a unifying force for education, opportunity, and hope across the continent.

“After over 30 years of an international professional career dedicated to promoting an ideal form of football that brings people together, educates, and creates opportunities for hope, I have decided to step down from my position as Secretary General of CAF,” Mosengo-Omba stated.

He added that his departure comes with peace of mind, having successfully dispelled what he described as “suspicions that some people have gone to great lengths to cast on me.” Mosengo-Omba leaves CAF “more prosperous than ever” and extended his sincere gratitude to CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, his teams, and all those who contributed to the “real and remarkable progress” of organised African football.

“Let us hope that the progress made will last and be sustained,” Mosengo-Omba concluded.

In a swift and decisive move, CAF has appointed Nigerian football administrator Mr. Samson Adamu as the new General Secretary. Adamu, widely respected for his organisational and developmental expertise, previously served as a key figure in CAF’s events structure. Notably, he was instrumental in organising the prestigious Copa Lagos beach soccer tournament, a flagship event that helped elevate beach soccer across Africa under CAF’s supervision.

Adamu’s appointment signals a continuity of CAF’s administrative evolution, drawing on his proven track record in event management and grassroots football development. His familiarity with CAF’s operational framework is expected to ensure a smooth transition as the organisation builds upon the progress achieved under Mosengo-Omba’s leadership.

An important chapter closes at CAF with Mosengo-Omba’s retirement, while a new one begins under Adamu’s stewardship. The Confederation has expressed confidence in its new Secretary General to sustain and expand the momentum of reform and prosperity across African football.
