Chelsea Hold Kotoko in Kumasi as Goalless Draw Hurts Porcupines’ Title Push
Berekum Chelsea frustrated Asante Kotoko with a disciplined display as the two sides played out a goalless draw at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, dealing a blow to the Porcupine Warriors’ hopes in the Ghana Premier League title race.
The result marked a rare positive outing for Chelsea in Kumasi, as they avoided defeat away to Kotoko for the first time since 2022.
The 25-time Premier League champions had gone into the fixture on the back of four consecutive home wins against the Berekum Chelsea, but were unable to extend that dominance on this occasion.
Kotoko controlled large spells of the game and pressed for a breakthrough, particularly in the closing stages, but Chelsea’s resolute defence stood firm to ensure the visitors returned to Berekum with a valuable point as they continue their battle for survival.
Despite the morale-boosting draw, Chelsea remain in the relegation zone. They sit 17th on 19 points, with their focus firmly on picking up wins in the weeks ahead to climb out of danger.
For Kotoko, the stalemate proved costly at the top end of the table. Lying fourth on 31 points, they have now lost further ground in the title chase and sit six points adrift of leaders Medeama SC, who strengthened their position at the summit with a convincing 3-0 win over Young Apostles.
