Spain’s national team all-time leading scorer David Villa has been appointed as a member of Atlético Madrid’s Board of Directors
The club’s main governing body was established at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. The new Board of Directors of Atlético de Madrid will be made up of eleven members. Enrique Cerezo will continue to serve as president, while Miguel Ángel Gil will remain in his role as CEO.
One of the most recognizable names joining the board in this new chapter is David Villa.
A legend of Spanish football, the striker from Asturias was part of the Atlético de Madrid squad that won LaLiga in the 2013/14 season.
He contributed with his goals during that campaign, in which the team also reached the Champions League final. Now, David Villa returns to the club as a member of the Board of Directors.
The all-time leading scorer for the Spanish national team has shared his excitement about this new professional challenge.
“I am very happy to be able to return to the club with new responsibilities, but with the same desire to help make Atlético de Madrid greater season after season. The club has been growing a lot for several years, and I hope to contribute so that we continue to achieve success. I am very grateful that they thought of me for this position,” Villa said.
Enrique Cerezo welcomed him back to the club. “This has always been your home, David. We are delighted that you have accepted this challenge, and I am convinced that with your great experience, you will help us make Atlético de Madrid even stronger. Welcome,” Cerezo stated.
The new board reflects the club’s commitment to bringing together experienced leadership with individuals who have a deep understanding of the club’s identity and winning history.
