Egypt Condemns Racial Chants in Spain Stalemate
The Egyptian Football Association has strongly condemned racist chants directed at Egypt during a goalless international friendly against Spain at the Espanyol Stadium in Barcelona.
In an official statement, the Egyptian FA described the incident as “reprehensible,” revealing that a section of spectators engaged in racist chanting and expressions from the stands during the match. The association also criticized what it called a lack of respect shown during the Egyptian national anthem, labeling the behavior unacceptable and harmful to the values of football.

Despite the off-field incidents, Egypt delivered a disciplined performance, holding Spain to a 0-0 draw in a competitive encounter as both sides continued preparations for the FIFA World Cup.
The Egyptian FA acknowledged and welcomed the swift condemnation issued by the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the Spanish Ministry of Sport, as well as other football figures across Spain who spoke out against the abuse.
Association president Hany Abo Rida is reportedly engaging with FIFA and other stakeholders to ensure stricter measures are enforced to combat racism in stadiums globally.
The statement emphasized that the actions of a minority of fans would not damage the longstanding relationship between the Egyptian and Spanish football authorities, highlighting the warm reception given to the Egyptian delegation in Barcelona.
Egypt reaffirmed its commitment to promoting respect, unity, and inclusivity in football while calling for stronger collective action to eliminate racism from the sport.
