The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a financial penalty to Tunisian football club Espérance de Tunis. The club must pay a fine of $15,000 following actions by its supporters during a CAF Champions League match in November

The ruling comes after an incident in the CAF Champions League. During Espérance’s fixture against Mali’s Stade Malien, some of the club’s supporters were found to have lit and used flares within the stadium.

CAF’s decision underscores its commitment to enforcing rules related to stadium safety and crowd control. The use of flares is strictly prohibited under CAF regulations due to the significant safety risks they pose to other spectators and players.

The governing body has applied the fine in direct response to this breach of safety protocols. This action serves as a reminder to all clubs of their responsibility to ensure a secure environment and to manage supporter behavior during matches.

The game ended 0-0 at Stade Hammadi Agrebi stadium in Tunis

Espérance de Tunis has yet to make a public statement regarding the sanction. The club will be expected to settle the fine in accordance with CAF’s procedures.
