The captain of the Black Stars of Ghana Jordan Ayew has opened up about the team’s social dynamics, stating that while players may not be best friends off the pitch, there is no friction or conflict within the squad.
Speaking in an interview with Joy Sports ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium, Ayew acknowledged the age gap among players and its influence on friendships within the team.
I’m 33, we have boys in the national team who are 19, so of course, they are not my friends. But I don’t care about age. I’m free and open to everyone. Ayew explained.
He further emphasized that while players naturally form closer bonds with certain teammates, the team remains united in its mission.
We [Black Stars players] are not best friends. Everyone has people that he’s closer to. But there’s no problem or friction sometimes there’re misunderstandings, but it’s part of the game. He added.
