The Ga Mashie Development Agency (GAMADA) has announced its commitment to support the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF). GAMADA, which is tasked by the Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA) with finding and nurturing talent in the Ga Mashie area, plans to work with the Federation, the Coaches Association, and other partners.
The Executive Director of GAMADA, Dr. Alfred Dodoo, met with the GBF and Ms. Catherine Cho, sister of Ghana’s Ambassador to China, who has also promised to support Ghanaian boxing.
The meeting was attended by several key figures, including a Korean businessman, Mr. Lee, who has an interest in Ghana boxing; GBF Vice President Nii Gonti Adjor I (also known as Nii Adama Addy); Second Vice President Mr. Solomon Otoo Lartey; Executive Member Ms. Sarah Lotus Asare; Treasurer Mr. Mustapha Nettey; Secretary Emilia Coach; and Dr. Ofori Asare.
During the event, GBF representative Dauda Fuseni called the gathering “unprecedented, historic, and special,” as it brought together boxers from across Ghana. He stated that the Federation’s agenda of improving its public image, operating with transparency, and promoting regional integration has begun.
“The public must know what we do. We are giving opportunities to everyone, boxers and coaches alike,” Fuseni said.
He advised boxers to stay humble, avoid overconfidence, and prepare well for their fights. He also welcomed more competitions in different regions to help promote the sport’s new direction.
Dauda Fuseni President of Ghana Boxing federation announced that the preliminary rounds for the national championship will start on Friday, January 30th, with the finals scheduled for the end of February. He encouraged boxers to perform well to make the event appealing to fans and sponsors.
“Amateur boxing lacks corporate support, largely due to poor presentation and packaging,” he noted.
The 2026 Amateur Boxing Championship is supported by several sponsors, including Twellium Industries, Freight Consult, Base Pharmaceuticals, Promasidor, Madar Soap, and Guinness Ghana. Media partners are Omashi Media, Joy Sports, BoxingGhana, Ibox360, and Ghana Boxing News.

Fuseni assured that the GBF is taking all necessary health, medical, and safety precautions to ensure a successful event. “We are changing the narrative for boxing in Ghana,” he said.
The GBF President highlighted that boxing has contributed more and achieved greater success than any other sport in the country.
Dr. Alfred Dodoo of GAMADA stated that boxing is a key part of the local heritage. He said GAMADA will bring in partners, including the Chinese community and diaspora groups, to help develop the sport.

Ms. Christiana Cho, a brand model from China, expressed her desire to help raise Ghana boxing to a higher level. Mr. Lee from Korea also spoke, noting his interest in cultural exchange and helping to develop the raw talent in Ga Mashie for international success.
Ms. Cho added that she aims to support Ghanaian sports, especially boxing, to reach greater heights. Mr. Lee emphasized that the strong talent found in Ga Mashie should be refined and shared globally, bringing both revenue and pride to the community.
