A new chapter for boxing across the African continent has officially begun. The inaugural African Boxing Congress was successfully held in Lagos, Nigeria.
The event, hosted at the Lamiridge Hotel Conference Hall, saw the participation of representatives from 20 National Boxing Federations. The Congress served as the foundational meeting for the newly established African Boxing body.
Delegates worked through a formal agenda, approving key documents including the previous minutes, a Strategic Plan, and the Draft Statutes that will govern the organization.
The Congress then moved to elections for the first executive leadership. The following officials were elected by acclamation:
President: Mr. Solomon Desmond Kargbo
Vice Presidents: Mr. Omonlei Yakubu and Mrs. Anta Gueye
Board Members: Mr. Alaeldin Alfatih, Mr. Dirang Thipe, Mr. Kpako Jules, Mr. Awil Gele, Mr. Dauda Fuseni of Ghana, and Ms. Maria Obono.
In a subsequent Board meeting after the Congress, Mr. Cyprien Tamo was nominated to serve as the Secretary General of the organization.
The inaugural gathering also featured initial discussions on important future projects, including the design of an official African Boxing logo and the structure of a potential continental league. These talks set the stage for the body’s upcoming work.
The day, which marked a milestone in unifying and promoting the sport across Africa, concluded with a celebratory Gala Night.
The election of Ghana’s Dauda Fuseni to the Board ensures Ghanaian representation at the highest level of the continent’s new boxing authority.
