The Ghana Boxing Choice Awards has officially released the list of nominees for the 2025-2026 Best Categories, marking the beginning of public engagement for one of the nation’s most respected boxing honors. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on July 11, with public voting opening on April 1.
The Ghana Boxing Choice Awards brings together athletes, promoters, media representatives, and boxing supporters for an evening that recognizes outstanding performances, rising talents, and meaningful contributions to the sport. The event promises a night of celebration, red-carpet moments, and tributes to members of the country’s boxing community.
Voting and Ceremony Details
Public voting will begin on April 1 through official channels, giving fans the opportunity to select their favorites across various categories. The awards night is set for July 11, with venue and ticketing information to be announced at a later date.

Special Recognition Awardees
In addition to the competitive categories, the Ghana Boxing Choice Awards has announced three special honorees who will receive recognition for their contributions to the sport:
Patrick Johnson will receive the Excellence in Boxing Administration Award. This honor recognizes his work behind the scenes in supporting and developing boxing administration in Ghana.

Samir Captan has been named the Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree. This award celebrates his long-standing contributions and dedication to boxing over many years.

Roger Barnor will receive The Referee Heritage Award. This recognition honors his service and commitment to officiating boxing matches with fairness and professionalism.

The Ghana Boxing Choice Awards is proud to declare Sharaf Mahama as this year’s Vanguard Honouree. Mahama is a Ghanaian sports entrepreneur and philanthropist who leads Legacy Rise Sports, a premier boxing promotion and talent-management outfit.

Once a professional footballer and now a licensed FIFA agent, Mahama turned his passion for boxing sparked by stars like Anthony Joshua into Legacy Rise to raise professional standards in Ghanaian boxing. His notable promotions include “Battle of the Beasts” (June 2025) and “The Showdown” (Dec 20, 2025), staged in collaboration with Matchroom Boxing.
He represents standout fighters including John Abaja Laryea (IBF Continental Africa Featherweight Champion) and Stanley “Ashanti Warrior” Nyantakyi.
Among his accolades are Boxing Promotion of the Year at the Ga Youth Forum Awards (early 2026) and Personality of the Year 2025. He also heads the Sharaf Mahama Foundation, which advances youth development through education and sport, and holds a Business Management degree from Arden University, London.
Azumah “The Professor” Nelson will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to Ghanaian boxing.
