The Ghana Cycling Federation has held a colourful and well-attended launch of the 10th edition of the Tour du Ghana at the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Conference Room in Accra.
The ceremony brought together high-profile sports leaders, sponsors, and media houses, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s cycling history.
Present were the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Mr. Richard Akpokavie, the General Secretary of the Ghana Cycling Federation, Mr. Shabaan Mohammed, who also doubles as Director of Operations at G.O.C, Nana Mankatta, Board member of the Ghana Olympic Committee (G.O.C) invited guests, and several corporate and institutional partners.

In his address, Mr. Shabaan Mohammed highlighted the remarkable growth of cycling in Ghana, crediting the increasing level of sponsorship and institutional support. He emphasized that the energy, investment, and national interest now fueling the sport reflect its rising profile and competitiveness across the country.

A special moment during the launch was the outdooring of the official race jerseys, which cyclists will battle for at each stage of the Tour.
The jerseys sparked excitement among attendees, signalling the fierce competition expected in this edition.

Another major highlight was the announcement of Togbe Afede XIV, Executive Chairman of Strategic African Securities (SAS), as one of the key sponsors of this year’s event. Togbe Afede has offered exceptional support by hosting the entire personnel in Ho for five days, providing accommodation, hospitality, and other privileges to ensure the comfort and readiness of the cyclists, officials, and technical team.

His generous backing was celebrated as a significant contribution to the success of the 10th edition.

The launch also acknowledged the crucial role played by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Office of the Presidency.

The Ministry has supported the Federation throughout its preparations, providing guidance, institutional backing, and coordination to ensure a smooth event. The Presidency was also recognised for its encouragement and national endorsement of the Tour du Ghana, further elevating the profile of the competition and strengthening its importance on the national sporting calendar.

The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Mr. Richard Akpokavie, shared his delight at the Federation’s progress, applauding the leadership for their vision and commitment.
He encouraged them to continue striving for excellence as Ghana positions itself on the global cycling map.
Sponsors also took turns to present their contributions. Verna Mineral Water has donated 36,000 bottles of water, pledging continued long-term support.
Apetamen presented gym bags, water bottles, T-shirts, caps, and additional branded items. Other sponsors, including Prudential Bank and several corporate partners, reaffirmed their dedication to uplifting the sport with financial and material support.

General Secretary Mr. Shabaan Mohammed concluded by announcing that the majority of the international and local teams have already arrived and are preparing actively for the event.
