The Bukom Boxing Gym is finalizing preparations for a key international exchange as its elite amateur boxers gear up for a return trip to France, according to head coach Augustus Dodoo.

The initiative falls under a structured exchange program between the Bukom Boxing Gym and Boxing Club Drouais. Speaking on the arrangement, Coach Dodoo emphasized the reciprocal nature of the partnership.

“It is the turn of Ghana in the exchange program, which has been well organized. They came last year, so they are expecting us this year,” said Dodoo, popularly known as ‘One Life.’

The boxers selected for the trip include Mathias Ashitey (52kg), Precious Akai Nettey (63kg), Emmanuel Attoh (60kg), and James Armah (64kg)—all elite amateur athletes from the renowned Bukom Boxing Gym.

Coach Dodoo explained that the visit is the return leg of the bilateral program, which was established to foster a cordial partnership and strengthen sporting ties between France and Ghana. Last year, Bukom Gym hosted the French team from 19 to 26 October 2025.

This year’s delegation is scheduled to depart Ghana on 16 April and return on 26 April.

Beyond the exchange’s diplomatic and sporting merits, Dodoo noted the strategic timing of the trip. He believes the exposure will offer valuable competitive experience for the boxers, particularly with the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, on the horizon.

The coach also extended formal appreciation to key stakeholders who have supported the initiative, including Mr. Yaw Ampofo, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA); Hon. Iddi Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation; Hon. George Opare-Addo, Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment; and the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF).

“The timing is right,” Dodoo said. “It will offer the Black Bombers valuable experience ahead of the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games.”
