Ghana has been confirmed as the official host nation for the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships. The country will welcome Africa’s top athletes for the 24th edition of this major continental event.

The formal agreement was signed at a ceremony in Accra by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, on behalf of the Government of Ghana. He signed alongside representatives from the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) and Ghana Athletics.

The championship is scheduled to take place from May 12th to May 17th, 2026. All events will be held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon.

The signing was attended by a high-level delegation from the CAA, led by its President, Mr. Hamad Kalkaba Malboum. Also present were leaders from Ghana Athletics, the Ghana Olympic Committee, and the National Sports Authority. Their joint participation highlights the united effort across Ghana’s sports community to ensure a successful and well-organized event.
