Following their participation in the Commonwealth Sports Congress in Glasgow, Scotland, officials of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) have undertaken a comprehensive inspection of facilities in preparation for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The GOC delegation was led by its President, Mr. Richard Akpokavie Esq., and the Secretary General, Mr. Muniru Mohammed. They were joined by Mr. Ernest Danso, who has been appointed as Ghana’s Chef de Mission for the 2026 Games.

A significant outcome of the Congress was the historic ratification of a new strategic direction for the federation, which includes changing its name from the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) to Commonwealth Sports.

During their visit, the delegation conducted a detailed assessment of potential competition venues and operational facilities.

This proactive initiative was aimed at evaluating Ghana’s readiness to align with the renewed and invigorated vision of Commonwealth Sports.

The inspection served as a crucial preparatory engagement, allowing the team to address key logistical priorities to ensure optimal conditions for Team Ghana.

Areas of focus included ticketing procedures, accommodation standards, pre-Games training camp arrangements, as well as visa and accreditation protocols.

This forward planning underscores the GOC’s commitment to ensuring a successful and seamless experience for all Ghanaian athletes and officials at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
