The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has issued an official statement to reassure Ghanaians that the senior national women’s team, the Black Queens, are safe and in good spirits in the United Arab Emirates.
The team is currently in the UAE to take part in the Pink Ladies Cup tournament. This competition is a key part of their preparation for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
According to the Ministry, the Minister for Sports and Recreation has been in constant contact with the Ghana Football Association, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the UAE.
This is to closely follow developments in the region and to make sure the team’s safety and well-being are guaranteed.
Officials from the Ghanaian mission in the UAE have already visited the Black Queens at their camp. During the visit, they gave the team direct assurances of the government’s full support and its commitment to their safety.
The Ministry praised the Embassy staff for their quick response and for working closely with all parties involved during this time.
The Government stated that it remains fully dedicated to protecting and supporting all Ghanaian athletes who represent the nation abroad. The situation, they added, is being carefully watched with the help of the relevant authorities, and they will take any needed steps to protect the team’s best interests.
The Ministry is asking the public to stay calm and continue to support the Black Queens as they focus on their training and performance in the tournament.
