GPL Goals Analysis: 400 Goals Scored as Home Dominance Define Season

The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign continues to reflect intensity and fine margins, with 400 goals scored after 216 matches across 24 matchdays.

The numbers translate to an average of 1.85 goals per match, highlighting a competitive and defensively disciplined league where games are often decided by narrow scorelines rather than goal fests.

A major theme emerging from the data is home dominance. Of the 400 goals scored so far, 267 have come from home sides, a commanding 66.8% of the total while away teams have managed just 133 goals (33.2%).

On average, 1.24 goals are scored by home teams per match and 0.62 goals are scored by away teams per match

The disparity underlines how difficult it has been for visiting sides to impose themselves offensively, reinforcing the strong home-ground advantage that has characterized the Ghana Premier League.

This means that home advantage is crucial in winning the title or surviving relegation.

In terms of match timing, the league has seen slightly more productivity after the break. While 195 goals were scored in first halves, 205 have come in second halves. This trend suggests matches tend to open up as they progress, with tactical changes, urgency, and fatigue contributing to more goals late on.

Sitting at the summit, Medeama SC have emerged as the league’s most potent attack with 32 goals, a key factor behind their position at the top of the table. Close behind are Asante Kotoko with 30 goals, reaffirming their attacking pedigree.

At the other end of the standings, Eleven Wonders have struggled for firepower, scoring just 14 goals in 24 matches, an average of only 0.58 goals per game. In a low-scoring league, that lack of cutting edge has proven costly and this explains why they are rooted bottom of the table.

Individually, the Golden Boot race is currently led by Bibiani GoldStars’ Samuel Atta Kumi with 11 goals. In a campaign where goals are hard-earned, his tally stands out as a significant contribution.

With ten matchdays remaining, the numbers suggest that home advantage and second-half sharpness could prove decisive as the title race and relegation battle reach their climax.
