The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, sustainable development, and adherence to global standards following the successful convening of its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Accra.
Held at the Labadi Beach Hotel, the meeting brought together delegates, stakeholders, and key figures within the sporting fraternity to review the Union’s activities, assess progress made over the past year, and outline strategic priorities for the future.
The AGM was attended by distinguished personalities, including Mr. Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee. Representatives from Rugby Africa and World Rugby were also present, with Rugby Africa’s General Manager, Mr. Mahazohe, participating virtually to reiterate the continental body’s continued support for the development of rugby in Ghana.
A major highlight of the meeting was the adoption of a new constitution and Code of Conduct, both aligned with the regulatory frameworks of Rugby Africa and World Rugby. The Union noted that these instruments are designed to strengthen governance structures, enhance institutional integrity, and promote discipline within the sport. Officials emphasized that aligning with international best practices remains critical to advancing Ghana’s standing in global rugby.
Financial accountability was also a central focus of the AGM. The Union’s auditor presented the financial statements to delegates, who had received the documents ahead of the meeting. This facilitated informed discussions and allowed members to seek clarifications, reinforcing the Union’s commitment to openness and prudent financial management.
In addition, the GRFU expressed appreciation to its partners, sponsors, and the media for their continued support. With the adoption of enhanced governance frameworks and a renewed strategic direction, the Ghana Rugby Football Union is positioning itself to consolidate recent gains while expanding the reach and impact of rugby nationwide.
