The England captain becomes the first English player to score 500 official goals for club and country
Harry Kane has added another remarkable achievement to his career. The Bayern Munich striker scored his 500th goal in official matches during Saturday’s game against Werder Bremen.
The 32-year-old’s second goal in that match took him to the milestone. It makes him the first English player ever to reach 500 goals in official top-level football.
Kane’s journey to this record began more than 15 years ago. In January 2011, aged just 17, he scored his first professional goal for Leyton Orient against Sheffield Wednesday in League One.

Since then, Kane has become one of the most consistent goalscorers in world football. He has finished as top scorer in the World Cup, the Premier League (three times), the Bundesliga (twice), and the Champions League. He was also joint-top scorer at Euro 2024.
He already holds the record for most goals at Tottenham Hotspur and for England.
The Goals by Team
Here is how Kane’s 500 goals break down across the teams he has represented:
Tottenham Hotspur: 280 goals
Bayern Munich: 86 goals (and counting)
England: 78 goals
Leyton Orient: 5 goals (loan)
Millwall: 9 goals (loan)
Leicester City: 2 goals (loan)
Norwich City: 0 goals (loan appearance)
His 280 goals for Tottenham broke Jimmy Greaves’ club record that had stood since 1970. His 78 goals for England beat Wayne Rooney’s previous record of 53.
Goals by Season
Kane has had two seasons where he scored 52 goals. He first reached that total in 2017-18 for Tottenham and England. He matched it in 2023-24, his first season at Bayern Munich.
This season, he is already on 46 goals. With Bayern still competing in three competitions and the World Cup coming up, he is likely to beat his personal best before the season ends.
In club football alone, his best return is 44 goals in his first Bayern season. He has already scored 41 times for the German club this season.

Goals by Competition
Kane has scored in every competition he has played in. His 213 Premier League goals are his highest total in any single competition. Only Alan Shearer, with 260, has scored more in Premier League history.
In the English top flight’s entire history (since 1888), 18 players have scored more than Kane. However, he is the highest scorer in England’s top division in the 21st century.
Across Europe’s five biggest leagues (England, Germany, Spain, Italy, and France), Kane has scored 301 goals. That puts him ninth on the all-time list for those divisions.
In the Champions League, Kane has scored 48 goals. That makes him the highest-scoring English player in the competition’s history, 18 more than Wayne Rooney in second place.
Goals for England in Major Tournaments
Kane has scored 15 goals for England in major tournaments (World Cups and European Championships). That is five more than Gary Lineker in second place.
If Kane scores three goals at this summer’s World Cup in North America, he will become England’s outright top scorer in the competition.
Among European players, only Cristiano Ronaldo (22), Miroslav Klose (19), Gerd Muller (18), and Jurgen Klinsmann (16) have scored more at major tournaments than Kane.
Teams He Has Scored Against Most
Kane has scored against 135 different teams in his career. Leicester City, where he had a loan spell in 2013, are the team he has scored against most often with 20 goals.
He has reached double figures against 12 different sides. All of them are English clubs except for German team Stuttgart.
For England, Albania are the team he has scored against most with seven goals.
There are seven teams he has played against more than twice and never scored against. These include Benfica, Iceland, and Spain.

Hat-Tricks and Penalties
Kane has scored 29 hat-tricks in his career. His first came against Greek club Asteras Tripolis in the Europa League in October 2014. In that same game, he ended up playing in goal.
He has scored:
13 hat-tricks for Tottenham
11 hat-tricks for Bayern Munich
5 hat-tricks for England
He has scored four goals in a game on three occasions. The most recent was for Bayern against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League in September 2024. Three of those goals were penalties, making him the only player to score a penalty hat-trick in the competition’s history.
In total, 100 of his 500 goals have come from the penalty spot. He has missed just 13 penalties in his career, a success rate of 88.5 per cent. That is better than Cristiano Ronaldo (83.8 per cent) and Lionel Messi (77.8 per cent).
How He Scores
Most of Kane’s goals come from inside the penalty area. He has scored 449 goals from inside the box and 51 from outside.
His goals break down by body part:
Right foot: 318 goals
Head: 94 goals
Left foot: 86 goals
Shoulder: 1 goal
Left arm: 1 goal
The shoulder goal came against Stoke City in April 2018. It was originally given to Christian Eriksen before being awarded to Kane four days later. The left-arm goal came at Brighton in October 2022.
Son Heung-min provided the assist for that Brighton goal. The South Korean is the player who has set up Kane most often, with 28 assists at Tottenham.
Where He Stands in Football History
According to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), Kane is the 27th player to score 500 goals in official top-level matches.
Of those 27 players, six are still playing: Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski, Luis Suarez, Karim Benzema, and Harry Kane.
Kane is the only English player on this list. While other English greats like Steve Bloomer, Dixie Dean, and Jimmy Greaves scored more than 500 goals in their careers, those totals included games at various levels and in less official competitions.
Kane’s 500 goals have come only in official matches at the top level of football. This makes his achievement unique among English players.
At 32, Kane shows no signs of slowing down. With a World Cup coming up and Bayern challenging on multiple fronts, he will add many more goals before his career ends.
