The Ghana National Cocoa Farmers Association, together with the Africa for Glory Agenda, has announced the first Cocoa Cup Soccer Tournament.

The main event will be held in Brazil in March 2027. Its goal is to bring together clubs from countries that grow cocoa and countries that buy it. The theme is “Youth-Led Soccer for Sustainable Cocoa Production.”

As part of the build-up, Ghana will host a special curtain-raiser match next year. The country’s two most famous clubs, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, will face off in this high-profile game.

Tournament officials have confirmed that both clubs will receive $50,000 each simply for taking part. The winner of the match will gain a significant advantage, earning a $1 million bonus to help them prepare for the main tournament in 2027.

This clash is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The rewards for the main Cocoa Cup in Brazil are even greater. The winning team will receive $4 million, with $3 million for second place, $2 million for third, and $1 million for fourth. Eight teams from around the world will compete.

Daniel Nana Osei Ampratwum, the Tournament Project Manager, explained the bigger picture. He said the Cocoa Cup is more than just a football competition. It is a youth-focused project that uses the power of the sport to support positive change in cocoa-growing communities everywhere.

With the countdown now on to the 2026 curtain-raiser, Ghanaian football supporters have a thrilling event to anticipate. The match offers not only a major local showdown but also a chance for Ghana’s football to shine on a new global stage, all while supporting a worthy cause.
