Hearts of Oak Held as Title Push Loses Momentum
Accra Hearts of Oak’s Ghana Premier League title ambitions suffered another setback after they were held to a goalless draw by Dreams FC in a tightly contested encounter at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.
The Phobians dominated proceedings in the opening exchanges and created the better chances in the first half, piling pressure on the Dreams FC backline but failing to find the breakthrough their play deserved.
Their best opportunity fell to Hussein Mohammed, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to race through on goal. With only the goalkeeper to beat, Hussein attempted to round the keeper but failed, letting Dreams off the hook in what proved to be a costly miss.
After the break, the complexion of the game changed as Dreams FC emerged with renewed purpose. The visitors pushed higher up the pitch and began to trouble the Hearts defence, forcing goalkeeper Benjamin Asare into a series of jaw-dropping saves to keep the scores level. Asare’s heroics ensured Hearts stayed in the contest during a spell when Dreams looked the more likely side to score.
Dreams FC did have the ball in the back of the net, but celebrations were cut short as the goal was controversially ruled out for offside, much to the frustration of the visitors.
The stalemate marked Hearts of Oak’s seventh goalless draw of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season—the highest by any team in the campaign so far—underlining their struggles in front of goal.
It also extended Dreams FC’s impressive recent away run at the expense of the Phobians, as they remain unbeaten in their last four visits to Hearts, recording one win and three draws.
The dropped points mean Hearts failed to close the gap on the league’s leading pack. They sit fourth on the table with 32 points, level with Bibiani GoldStars in second and Aduana FC in third, while moving just one point clear of rivals Asante Kotoko.
With all the teams around them still to play their fixtures this weekend, the point gap could widen and the pressure will continue to mount on the Phobians as the title race intensifies.
