Hon. Betty Krosbi Mensah, Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, has outlined the government’s commitment to using recreation as a tool to improve public health.
Speaking on the importance of recreational activities, Hon. Mensah explained that one of the key goals is to reduce the rate of non-communicable diseases to the barest minimum. She noted that by encouraging more Ghanaians to take part in sports and recreation, the country can build a healthier population.
“When it comes to recreation, we are hoping to reduce the rate of non-communicable diseases to the barest minimum,” she said.
To achieve this, she stated that the ministry is open to partnerships with private businesses. “We are open to anyone who wants to invest in recreation so that we can expand what we have started and build a healthier society,” she added.
Hon. Mensah made these remarks while reacting to a recent donation by the National Investment Bank (NIB), which gave GH₵100,000 to the sports fund. She expressed excitement about the bank’s gesture and used the opportunity to appeal to other companies to do the same.
She described herself as “very happy” when she heard about NIB’s support and encouraged other businesses in Ghana to follow the bank’s example. By contributing to the sports fund, she said, corporate bodies can help expand ongoing programs and create more opportunities for Ghanaians to stay active.
Hon. Mensah believes that with more support from the private sector, the country can make meaningful progress in sports development and public health.
