President John Dramani Mahama has tasked the newly appointed Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, with revitalizing Ghana’s sports sector and restoring the Black Stars to their former glory.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for 17 ministers at the Jubilee House on Friday, February 7, President Mahama emphasized the urgent need for transformation in the country’s sports landscape. He urged the Minister to bring transparency, professionalism, and structured management to the sector.
“Hon. Kofi Adams, I don’t envy your job. You have the enormous responsibility of restoring Ghana’s status as a powerhouse in African and world sports. The current state of our sports sector is unacceptable for a nation of our caliber. I expect you to inject transparency, professionalism, and modern management practices into the system,” President Mahama stated.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening all sports disciplines, highlighting the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as a key area for reform.
“I expect you to focus on developing all sports disciplines, but the Ghana Football Association is a good place to start. We must work towards returning the Black Stars to their former glory.”
The President’s remarks signal the government’s renewed commitment to sports development, recognizing its role in national pride, economic growth, and global recognition.
