Ilgar Rahimov, President of the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA), has formally opened a new and deepened chapter in the organization’s partnership with Africa. In an address delivered at the African Paralympic Committee (AfPC) General Assembly, President Rahimov commended Africa’s unwavering unity and resilience.

“Africa is the strength of spirit, the power of unity, and the warmth of people who move forward even when the path is not easy,” Rahimov stated, affirming that IBSA and the African Paralympic community “walk this path together, as one family.”

To solidify this commitment, President Rahimov announced the official launch of the IBSA Africa Office, a strategic hub designed to strengthen development and ensure African perspectives are central to the global blind sports movement.

Key announcements included:

The confirmation of the 2026 IBSA African Games as a landmark event for the continent.

New mentorship and solidarity programmes to foster growth at the grassroots level.

A significant partnership with AIDA, the development agency of Azerbaijan, to provide direct support for coaching, training, and equipment.

The establishment of the first IBSA Athletes’ Council, chaired by Kenyan athlete Sella, to give competitors a powerful voice in the federation’s governance.

President Rahimov concluded by recognizing the global leadership of Africa, stating, “Africa shows the world that dignity, mutual support, and hope can lift entire nations.”
