The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has conducted a working visit to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
Upon her arrival, the Vice President was welcomed by a high-level delegation. This included the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Wilhelmina Asamoah, the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, and the Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority, Gideon Hammond.

The purpose of the visit was to receive updates on key projects aimed at developing sports in Ghana. The Vice President was briefed on the Ministry’s efforts, which include clearing nearly one million dollars in overdue salaries owed to members of the Black Stars, Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team.

“This Ministry is playing its role… and I’m very impressed about the report you have given and I want to congratulate all of you,” stated Vice President Opoku-Agyemang.
The visit comes as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Black Stars have been placed in Group L, where they will face England, Croatia, and Panama.

During the meeting, Sports Minister Kofi Adams outlined other major developments. He highlighted the Ministry’s work in passing the Sports Fund and establishing a dedicated Sports Police Unit to ensure safety and order in sports venues.
Chief Director Wilhelmina Asamoah expressed the Ministry’s gratitude to the Vice President for her visit. She assured the Vice President of the Ministry’s continued commitment to driving positive change and growth within the sports sector.
